TMC led group protests in Ibadan over continued captivity of Oriire abductees

TMC on Monday staged a protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, demanding the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

The protesters converged at Iwo road, where they called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the victims and address the worsening security situation in the state.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Security for all, not for a few,” “Government must end kidnapping in Oyo State,” and “Protect farmers, traders and students,” the demonstrators expressed frustration over the growing wave of kidnappings in the country.

One of the protesters said many Nigerians were becoming increasingly concerned about persistent insecurity, noting that residents of Oyo State were particularly disturbed by the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers.

The protest follows attacks on schools and surrounding communities in the Ahoro-Esiele area of Oriire Local Government Area, where armed men abducted pupils, students and teachers, triggering widespread concern among residents and parents.

According to reports, the victims were kidnapped when gunmen invaded the affected schools and nearby communities, raising fresh fears about the safety of learners and education workers in rural areas.

Relatives of the abductees have repeatedly appealed to the Oyo State Government and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts, expressing concern over the prolonged captivity of their loved ones.

The protesters urged authorities to take urgent and decisive steps to tackle insecurity across the state and prevent further attacks on schools and communities.
